Biography
Tetsuya Ishiyama was born in Saitama Prefecture in 1973. In 2002, he became a studio artist at the Shiga Prefectural Ceramic Art Forest, and in 2003, he established his own studio in Shigaraki. Based in Shigaraki, he creates unique works using advanced techniques, such as inlay, gold and silver decoration, and the Suimensho series, which uses glass to represent the surface of water, in places like Jingdezhen in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and India. His major awards include the 21st Shumei Cultural Foundation Award (2010), selection for the International Ceramics Exhibition Mino (2011), selection for the Kikuchi Biennale (2013), and the Shiga Prefecture Cultural Arts Encouragement Award (2013). His works are held in numerous collections both in Japan and abroad, including the MIHO MUSEUM (Shiga), Takagi Bonsai Art Museum (Tokyo), Yingge Ceramics Museum (New Taipei City, Taiwan), World Ceramics Center (South Korea), Jingdezhen Ceramic Art Studio (China), Hong Kong Baptist University (Hong Kong), Folk Art International Museum (USA), Denver Art Museum (USA), and Uttarayan Foundation for the Promotion of the Arts (India).
