<Precautions for actual use>
When using Bizen ware (especially plates for oily foods), you need to be a little careful when using it. It depends on the clay and firing, but generally, all unglazed vessels should be soaked in water before use. When you first start using it, put foods with less oil on the plate. Repeat this for a certain period of time. Wetting with water prevents oil and odor. This should be done especially when using for the first time or when serving oily foods. Particular care is required for rough clay or lightly fired pieces. It also makes the colors look more vivid and beautiful. (There are many people who say that you should boil the vessel before that, but we do not recommend boiling it.) Once the vessel has acquired a certain level of resistance, there is no need to be so nervous. After use, wash it as soon as possible. Use detergent when serving oily foods. Wash well and dry it well. Expose it to air as much as possible. Once it is completely dry, store it in a cupboard. If you store it during the rainy season without drying it thoroughly, it may become moldy.
About Shigaraki Tsubo,
Because the clay of shigaraki ware is rough, so it often leaks water.
Almost works are checked for leaks and do not leak, but large tsubo will leak if a large amount of water is directly poured into them.
Water pressure is applied to particularly large tsubo, and there is a high probability that water will leak.
If you put water directly into the tsubo, it will be too heavy to hold.
When we put flowers in those big tsubo, we put another container inside the tsubo.
We call the container “Otoshi”.
If you don’t have a suitable container, a convenient way is to use a plastic bottle.
You can easily cut the opening of the plastic bottle with a utility knife.
It is convenient to use by deciding the size of the mouth.
Please use it a lot and have fun!
