The other day, I visited Abe sensei’s home. Thanks to his kindness, I was able to see his treasured works. This chawan was made a while ago (10 years ago). There is a label on the furoshiki wrapping the double box that reads “Owabisuke.”
It means that it has a very wabi atmosphere.
Although the black type (Inbe) pieces are popular, I personally like Abe-sensei’s reddish brown type (Bizen), and this piece has very nice color and texture. The melted chocolate texture in the 10th and 11th photos is also appealing.
And above all, the design of this piece is so great that it is captivating.
I believe that only Abe sensei, who has observed many masterpieces and reached a highly skilled level, could create this.
I believe this will be immediately recognizable to those who enjoy old Raku (chojiro) and Oribe art.
Within Mikomi there are two mysterious shining crystal-like things. Even the Abe sensei doesn’t know why this happened.
The kodai, which is the most interesting feature of a chawan, is also great. It’s very well balanced and very captivating.
Potters who want to study chawan should come and see this chawan. I want them to feel the softness of the chawan when they hold it in their hands. I am delighted to be able to introduce this chawan to everyone, and I am grateful to Abe sensei.
