This piece’s true colours emerge in quiet, cool natural light, rather than indoor lighting or sunlight after 2pm.
The shadows of leaves or other objects are expressed boldly and tastefully by applying lead.
This is a wonderful technique, including the creation of three-dimensional stems.
This unique style of expression was favored by Ogata Korin.
A crescent moon seems to be reflected in each flower, perhaps representing wild chrysanthemums at midnight.
Unlike other works that are simply beautiful, this piece has a very profound presence.
Although these are not ceramic works, I believe that these techniques have had a major influence on a variety of crafts, and there is much to learn from them.
