30 years of pottery experience | Masayuki HIGUCHI
Born in Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture in 1967
Higuchi san comes from a family of fifth generation potters.
The first generation of the company produced Western-style tableware out of semi-porcelain during the Meiji period.
The second generation also produced works in the same way. The third generation died young in the war.
During the war, they made ceramic buttons for clothing.
His father, the fourth generation, began making tea bowls and other items using Shino ware (Mino ware).
His father advised him when he was young that it would be better for him to go out and study.
So he studied at the Yamamoto family of Bizen ware.
After studying for about five years, Higuchi san returned to his hometown and became independent.

The pale blue-grey colour changes depending on the light (and how much cloud cover there is), just like the sky.
There are many things to see, such as the wrinkled glaze and rusty parts. The crazing will become more apparent with each use.
It looks handsome when viewed from a slightly horizontal position.

I think this tea bowl would be wonderful even if it was pure white, pure black, or even if it had no glaze at all, because it has a solid structure and a wonderful shape. It has a dignified and stately appearance. If you look at it from above, you can see its shape better.
