Inheriting a 400-year-old tradition

Bizen Hidasuki Hitoeguchi Mizusashi
Size(cm) W14.7 H15.4 (When measured with the lid on 18.2cm)
Wood Box
Momoyama period to early Edo period
Although it appears to have a simple shape, the form is refined by using a spatula to sculpt the lower part of the body, resulting in a solid appearance. This ensures that the front side is clearly defined. The person who created this work seems to be doing a better job by using fewer steps and avoiding unnecessary actions. It is a beauty that is created not by addition, but by subtraction.
That field is challenging, and I believe it is the result of skilled craftsmanship and sensitivity.
The clay has a nice texture, and you can feel satisfied whether you’re touching it or just looking at it.
It’s in excellent condition, and it’s clear that it has been well cared for.
There is a small cracks around the mouth area, but they are not significant enough to cause any problems.
The lid is dark brown. The colors of the artwork may appear different depending on the time of day and weather conditions when it was photographed.
